Coedo Brewery's dark beer. Brewed in the German Schwarz style — lightly bodied yet deeply roasted, suited to Japanese palates.
“Shikkoku” means deep black in Japanese. Neither heavy nor too light — a dark beer designed for the Japanese table.
Shikkoku is a Schwarz (German for black), originating in Thuringia. Roasted but not as heavy as stout, with lager cleanness — making it well-suited to daily Japanese meals.
Toasty roasted malt, hint of sweetness, lager-style clean finish. Lighter than Guinness — daily-drinkable dark beer. ABV 5.0%. Subtle coffee and chocolate notes.
Excellent with yakitori (tare), yakiniku, roast beef, demi-glace dishes, and chocolate cake. Pairs with Japanese kabayaki too. Better with food than as the first round.
Serve at 8-10°C for toasty aromas. Clear glass shows off the deep color. Don't over-chill or roasted notes vanish.
Within COEDO's color series, Shikkoku represents dark beer. With Ruri (pilsner) and Kyara (IPL), it forms the three pillars of the lineup.
