From Sawauchi, Iwate. A Japanese wheat beer in the Bavarian tradition, evoking the natural beauty and clean water of northern Japan.
Iwate's starry skies, nature, and clear water. “Ginga Kogen” (Galaxy Highland) suggests vastness — paired with the gentle taste of wheat.
Founded in 1996 in Sawauchi (now Nishiwaga), Iwate — a pioneer of Japan's post-deregulation craft scene. Production has migrated to Yo-Ho Brewing, but the recipe is preserved.
Bavarian hefeweizen style. Banana and clove aromas, mellow wheat-driven palate, light sweetness. ABV 5.5%. Slightly gentler than imported wheat beers.
Excellent with white fish, salads, seafood, and light cheeses. Good with sashimi and vinegared Japanese dishes too. Better for lunch or starters than heavy mains.
Serve at 8-10°C in a wheat beer glass. Pour with the German technique — add yeast at the end for the authentic look.
