“Franziskaner” means Franciscan monk in German. The brand carries forward the abbey origins of Bavarian wheat beer.
The Spaten brewery was founded in 1363, and the name comes from the nearby Franciscan abbey. Through centuries of ownership changes, the traditional Bavarian wheat beer style has continued.
Over 50% wheat malt, top-fermenting yeast contributes banana and clove, mellow and creamy palate. Even gentler than Paulaner — accessible to wheat beer beginners. ABV 5.0%.
Excellent with sausages, pretzels, sauerkraut, schnitzel, and roasts. Also good with cheese, light salads, and fruit desserts. Pairs with Japanese tempura and sashimi too.
Serve in the dedicated wheat beer glass. With bottles, add the yeast at the bottom last — tilt to 45° and pour 70%, then stand the bottle to add the remaining liquid and yeast.
