Founded 1759 in Dublin, Guinness is the world's most famous dark beer. Nitrogen-poured creamy head and coffee-like bitterness define what stout means.
Ireland's national drink and the world's most famous dry stout, served in 150+ countries.
Founded by Arthur Guinness in 1759 in Dublin. Famous for a 9,000-year lease on the brewery site. By the late 19th century, Guinness dominated Irish brewing; now brewed in over 50 countries worldwide.
Deep coffee aroma from roasted barley, firm bitterness, hint of sweetness, smooth body. The deep dark color is actually ruby (not fully black). ABV 4.2-4.5% — surprisingly light. Nitrogen pour creates the iconic creamy head.
Excellent with roast beef, steak, stews, oysters (a classic match), and chocolate desserts. The traditional Irish beef-and-Guinness stew uses the beer in cooking too.
“Pouring a perfect Guinness takes 119.5 seconds.” Tilt glass to 45°, fill three-quarters, wait 1:50 for the foam to settle, then top off with the head. Home cans contain a “surge widget” that releases nitrogen on opening to recreate the foam.
Now part of Diageo. Beyond the standard stout, the lineup includes Extra Stout, Foreign Extra Stout, and various Special editions. The Guinness Book of Records traces back to a Guinness CEO.
