From Belgium's Huyghe Brewery, the Pink Elephant label marks one of the world's most celebrated ales — once voted “World's Best Beer” in 1998.
“Delirium tremens” is a medical term for alcohol withdrawal — and the pink elephant is a humorous reference to it.
Released in 1989 by the Huyghe family brewery in Belgium. Won World's Best Beer at the 1998 World Beer Cup in the US, putting it on the global map. Distinctive ceramic-style white bottle with pink elephant illustrations.
ABV 8.5%, with fruity esters, malt sweetness, spice, and faint hop bitterness in complex balance. Three different yeasts produce its distinctive depth. Bottle-conditioned.
Excellent with roast pork, game, blue cheese, seafood, fruit desserts, and chocolate. The high alcohol stands up to assertive flavors. Highly satisfying in small servings.
Serve at 10-12°C. Often served in the dedicated pink elephant tulip glass. Take 30+ minutes per glass to enjoy how it evolves. Mind the alcohol — drink slowly.
Brouwerij Huyghe, founded 1654 in Melle, Belgium — a family operation. Beyond the Delirium series (Tremens, Nocturnum, Red, Christmas), they brew many other Belgian styles for global export.
